I was lucky enough to be shooting the BSB championship for a couple of seasons 5 years ago. Being a bike nut and a photography lover, this was pretty much paradise for me! I just so happened to be working at what is still one of my favourite seasons ever.... 2011. Tommy Hill and John 'Hopper' Hopkins were battling down to the very last race of the season at Brands Hatch for the title.
To say the last race was nail biting doesn't come close to it! One of my favourite last lap scraps of all time... Tommy and Hopper throwing everything at it... changing places time and time again until the very last corner where Tommy clinched it over the line by milliseconds to take the chequered flag.
I was already waiting at the entrance to Pit lane and was absolutely chuffed for Tommy! He was engulfed by Team members and friends. His smile said it all! I couldn't help feeling sorry for Hopper though who made it an amazing season Finale.
Tommy has since retired (sadly!!) from racing and is now Team Manager for the Yamaha E-Pay-Me Team.
No doubt, if ever Tommy got his leathers on again 5 years later.... he'd still be straight on it!
