From a walking site tour around an Energy centre to Corporate Headshots – A Busy Afternoon with Vital Energi
It’s always good when a photography assignment gives me a bit of variety, and a recent afternoon working with the lovely team at Vital Energi certainly delivered that.
The afternoon started at Islington Council’s Bunhill Energy Centres, where I was commissioned to photograph a special visit from a Swiss delegation representing BRUGG Pipes and the Board of IBB AG.The delegation had travelled to London to learn more about the UK’s district heating sector and to see the Bunhill Energy Centres first-hand.Capturing the Visit
My job was to document the visit and provide Vital Energi with a strong collection of professional images capturing both the people involved and the impressive energy infrastructure surrounding them.For this type of assignment, I like to work as unobtrusively as possible, following the group as they move around the site and capturing the conversations, presentations and interactions as they happen.Alongside those more natural documentary-style photographs, I also look for opportunities to create wider environmental images that establish the location, details of the infrastructure and, of course, those all-important group photographs.Technical and industrial environments are always interesting places to photograph. Pipework, machinery, engineering installations and architectural details can provide fantastic backgrounds and help give the photographs a real sense of place.The objective, though, is always the same: tell the story of the visit through the people, the location and the moments happening in front of the camera.
From an Energy Centre to Corporate Headshots
Once the delegation visit was wrapped up, there wasn’t much time to admire the photographs.Camera kit packed away, it was straight onto the motorbike and across London to Holborn for the second part of the afternoon’s assignment.This time, the brief was completely different.I was heading to Vital Energi’s offices to set up for a series of professional profile photographs of members of their team.After photographing a busy site visit in an operational energy environment, it was a quick change of pace: finding the right locations within the office, setting up the lighting and creating a consistent series of natural, professional portraits.I particularly enjoy photographing corporate headshots within a company’s own workplace. Rather than relying on a generic studio background, the office environment can be used subtly to give the photographs some context and personality while still keeping the individual as the clear focus of the image.
Two Very Different Shoots. One Afternoon.
By the end of the afternoon, we had covered two very different photography briefs for the same client.From documenting an international delegation visiting an important London energy facility, to creating professional profile photography for the Vital Energi team, it was a great example of the variety that comes with working as a corporate and commercial photographer.It was certainly a busy afternoon — but everything was covered, the photographs were in the bag and, most importantly, happy clients at the end of it!A big thank you to everyone at Vital Energi for another enjoyable assignment.Corporate, Event & Industrial Photography

A recent photography commission for Bouygues Construction UK, documenting the completion of a new Academy near Oxford.
The brief was to create a comprehensive collection of professional images showcasing the finished project, capturing both the architecture and the quality of the completed spaces.
The shoot included external architectural photography, interior photography and aerial drone imagery, providing a varied library of photographs that could be used across marketing, PR and company communications.
Projects like this are always rewarding to photograph. Combining ground-based photography with aerial imagery allows me to document a development from a range of perspectives — from the details and interior spaces through to the scale and setting of the completed building.
A great project to work on and a pleasure to photograph for the Bouygues Construction UK team.

A professional headshot is often one of the first opportunities a client, colleague or potential customer has to put a face to a name.
Over the Summer I’ve been working with a number of corporate clients to create professional headshots and profile photography within their own office environments – producing images that feel polished and professional, while still looking natural, approachable and individual.
More Than Just a Headshot
Rather than photographing everyone against a traditional studio backdrop, shooting within the workplace allows us to incorporate elements of the company’s own environment into the photographs.
Office architecture, meeting spaces, windows, corridors and other carefully selected areas can provide subtle backgrounds that help give the images a sense of place without distracting from the person being photographed.
The result is a collection of portraits that feels much more connected to the business and its people.
A Consistent Look Across Your Team
For businesses, consistency is particularly important.
Staff photographs often appear across company websites, LinkedIn profiles, proposals, presentations, press releases, recruitment materials and marketing campaigns. Having a professionally photographed set of portraits creates a much stronger and more cohesive impression than using a mixture of photographs taken at different times and in different styles.
When photographing a team, I aim to create that consistency while still allowing each person's individual character to come through.
Not everyone feels completely comfortable in front of a camera, so a large part of the process is keeping the session relaxed, providing simple direction and making sure people don't feel as though they need to know how to "pose". This is very often a good ice breaker, as they get to see me 'being them and showing them some posing styles.
Often, the best photographs happen once people forget about the photography and simply become themselves.
Photography That Fits Around the Working Day
Bringing the photography directly to the client's workplace also makes the process considerably easier when photographing multiple members of a team.
I can establish a suitable location and lighting setup within the office and photograph people individually throughout the session, minimising disruption to the working day.
Depending on the brief, we can also create a combination of formal headshots, more relaxed environmental portraits and wider profile images, giving the business a useful library of photography for different applications.
