I first worked with John Walsh of Walsh Brothers Films back in 2008 on the Prime Ministers Fellowship. John and his team were filming for The British Council, and educating the young British students for their forthcoming trips across the globe. Since then i've had the pleasure of working with John many times. 'Toy Soldiers' was put together and Directed by John, and explores the thoughts and feelings of children who's fathers were at war. Aiden, the boy in the picture I took for the show below, very sadly lost his father when he was 8 years old. These children tell their story from their perspective. Please head over to Johns site and watch Toy Soldiers
Set Stills Photography with lovable Aussie boys, Hamish and Andy
Some of you might know, that during the summer, Aussie TV and Radio sensations - 'Hamish and Andy' were over here in London filming their new TV show 'Hamish and Andy's Euro Gap Year'. I was pulled in to do some Set Stills Photography, Promotion shots and some behind the scenes photography too. I have to admit, before I got the call about working on the show - I had never heard of them. After a quick Google and Facebook search, I soon realized that these cheeky smilers have a big following on the south side! 1.6million facebook likers and half a million followers on twitter! Zoiks... i hoped they were cool!?
Our first shoot was set for some calamity capers around the London Eye, Westminster and then onto St Johns Wood for some Beatles Abbey Road fun! within 2 mins of meeting the guys i was pleasantly surprised at how absolutely lovely they were! Grounded, polite and great fun! from there on in .... it was all easy!
I hope you like the images and will check out these chaps... Hamish and Andy's Euro Gap Year is showing on ITV4 at the moment, and i guarantee you'll be smiling if you tune in! Enjoy!
Upstairs, Downstairs.
Characters on the underground ....I didn't manage to get a shot of this man giving this girl filthy looks for doing her makeup next to him ... it was hilarious![gallery]
Street Photography with 'street13'
yes yes yes .... its been months since i have blogged .... i need another set of arms and legs at the moment, not to mention brain!! I have been SOOOOOOOOOOO Busy for the last 5 months .... and still hectic, but thought its about time i got some stuff up on here to show you where i have been and what i have been doing! :) So ... as many of you know, i am a big Instagram fanatic!! But.... i mean Instagram in the true sense .... so my shots on Instagram are all 100% Iphone and nothing else!! ... I found this dude 'Sam' while on my way to a shoot... he got on the train as cool as a cucumber on his retro hotwheels and sat there in amongst the other travellers without a care in the world ... I quickly whipped out my trusty iphone 4 for some shots (on the quiet of course!) and got some great shots of Sam without him being aware ... ! But when Sam also got off at Willesden Green, my curiosity got the better of me, so i asked him if he'd mind me taking a few shots (i had my Nikon in my bag!! ;) ) and here they are. Sam was a very interesting guy with a story to tell that amazed me and truly makes you realize that we should never judge a book by its cover!! I hope you like!![gallery]
Iphoneography
As most of you who look at my blog will know, photography has always been firstly my passion and secondly my job. I count myself very fortunate to be paid to do something which gives me such pleasure - no matter what the subject. Photography takes me on a different journey each time I pick up my beloved Nikon D3 and D700. Whilst I'm out on my jobs I often come into contact with other enthusiastic photographers who often dismiss their abilities based upon having a cheaper camera!? To this I always laugh... as a picture is not just about it's technical brilliance... It's about the subject and the moment! The energy and the feeling. What might be nothing to someone else can mean the world to you in a picture, and Vice Versa! A photograph does not have to be taken on a £5k super shooter to still make a person stop, look and ponder.
To that end, I lead onto my new love for my IPhone and the amazing 'Hipstamatic' and 'Instagram' apps. These fantastic little snapper enhancements are the perfect way to catch a moment whilst out and about.
So.. I thought I would share a few of my snaps from my Iphone with you, and hopefully inspire you all to do the same :-)
Enjoy!

Photographing the Southbank with Energy
My lovely clients at 'energy design' gave me a great job recently down along London's Southbank. My shots were to be used in a local area guide, marketing the swanky new 'Grange Garden' housing development down near Bermondsey. These are the sort of jobs i just love!! Me, my camera, lots of walking and hunting out interesting places, features, and funky people. The weather was glorious, so i jumped on my motorbike and headed down there early. My brief was to show the local area, its atmosphere, the characters, the bars and restaurants etc. If there is one aspect to documentary/reportage photography i love it is capturing the things that are there, happening under your nose... I love people watching and seeing people going about their busy lives.
Have to say the cover shot was my fave also, so glad it made it there!! :-)[slideshow]
If you are down that way, why not pop into Grange Garden and see some of my images displayed in the reception area... here are a few shots from my iphone of me having a peek myself last week :-)[gallery columns="4" orderby="ID"]
If Heineken made photographers ....
One of my latest projects was to set up shoot for the forthcoming Rugby Heineken Cup. I had the pleasure of being the 'fly on the wall' whilst Will Greenwood, Rob Howley, Alan Lewis and Shaun Edwards all cast their views on the looming final. I had approx an hour i which to set the scene, light and shoot all the guys whilst they waxed lyrical about their beloved sport.
Published in RUGBY WORLD magazine and out now.[caption id="attachment_65" align="alignnone" width="497" caption="Heineken Cup"][/caption]
Latest Project 'BBC Documentary ~ My Life: KARATE KIDS Saturday 13th March BBC2 11.30am'
Karate Kids follows the friendships of two children with cerebral palsy. Tim cannot speak, so best friend Francis is his voice. However, when Tim embarks upon marital arts training his life changes forever. Karate Kids is a unique glimpse into a world that is ignored by mainstream society and often misunderstood by many children. This film challenges the perceptions around childhood disability. From award-winning and BAFTA nominated film-makers Walsh Bros. I worked during the making of the film, producing all the stills for use to promote and document the show.
The whole experience of working amongst these kids was very humbling.I'm very grateful to John Walsh and his production team for giving me the opportunity to work with them on this, and hope now to be doing more of this work and eventually some movie set stills...
